My Teaching Philosophy
Students are seeds waiting to be nourished so that they may grow and blossom. They require a combination of many elements in order to achieve this. Art is a subject that lends itself to all of these elements by targeting all facets of the mind. It is for this reason that I believe a holistic approach is the best determined way to teaching, particularly in my subject matter. Art is a form of connection between all subjects in school, as well as all of those students within that school, and their community without. As with my own art practice, I believe that students should learn to work with a variety of mediums so that they may find their own unique voice that helps them communicate their ideas beyond the classroom and with the entire world that they are connected to. Art connects students to their past, their present, and their future as students explore historical, contemporary, and their own artwork. It is a connection not only to their other classes, but to all parts of their lives if only given the chance to explore those possibilities so that each student may grow and blossom. |
